Asbestos Lungs-The Related Ailments

Over time, it has been determined that those workers who are in constant contact with asbestos will contract lung cancer within a few years. This happens because the asbestos fibers make their way through the system and attach themselves to certain parts in the body. The lungs are usually targeted more often than the other organs and the result is that the cells in the mesothelium go out of control and become cancerous in nature in no time. Asbestos lungs can therefore, lead to a type of cancer called mesothelioma, which is said to be the most rare but ruthless type of cancer.

Think of it this way- one can diagnose lymph cancer when the lymph nodes swell up and similarly, other kinds of tumors when the area start protruding outwards. However, with asbestos lungs cancer, it is very difficult to diagnose it because the symptoms only show up after 30 years or more. In other words, the cancer will remain inactive in the body from the time you inhale the fibers till you hit the 30 or 40 year time gap. Naturally, if you don’t notice anything wrong- why would you worry or even do anything about it? This is why it is the most brutal form of cancer but fortunately, there are ways to combat it.

Surgery is one way to get rid of the asbestos lung cancer but this is only possible if the tumor is in one place and hasn’t managed to travel to the rest of the organs. Chemotherapy which is the other option has a myriad of side-effects which range from extreme weight gain to loss of hair, extreme nausea, fatigue and pain in the area.
